September 15, 2008 :: San Francisco revisited

A couple of weeks ago I was in San Francisco first for pleasure, with a trip to Napa Valley, then for business.  The time I had for pleasure was filled with some awesome photos, check them out below, and check out the recently updated collection on San Francisco:

Cottonwood Flowers I

Cottonwood Flowers I

I remember these flowers from when I was a child.  We used to live on Camp Pendleton, and these things grew along the canyon pathway I walked to school on every morning.  They smell thick, and if you break them, have fiber like cotton in them.  I love their color, and the way the pop against the background of the bridge, looming.

Bay Bridge Belly

Bay Bridge Belly

I took this on my first trip to San Francisco in 2004.  At the time, my mom came out with me, so she was next to me when I took this picture.  To this day, it’s one of my favorites.  It was taken with a Nikon 5400.  I couldn’t tell you what the stock lense was on that camera if I’d tried now.  I desaturated the picture since there was no color in the sky that day, and I liked the way the constrast looks in the b/w.

From Below

From Below

I tried to replicate the above picture this last trip to San Francisco, but was unable to.  Seems like the best shots are the once in the lifetime pictures you capture in an instant.  I like this one in full color, with no retouching, it was a gorgeous day, and it shows in the picture.

Cask Cellar II

Cask Cellars II

This was taken during a tour of the wine cellars at Rubicon vineyard, formerly Niebaum-Coppola.  I love the neutral colors, you can just feel the dampness that was in the caves that afternoon.

Mooring

Mooring

I took this picture on a whim, and am amazed by how it came out.  The rope detailing is strong, along with the color contrast with the black iron and white rope and grey chains.  You’d think it was desaturated, except for the water, which glistens and sparkles.  There may have been some dust on the lens.

Diving In

Diving In

Again, another of my on the whim shots.  I loved how these sea lions were fighting to stay on the docks they were sun bathing on, and how just like me in the morning, they resolve to get up and come back later.

Against the Wind and Sun

Against the Wind and Sun

Like my other photos, I love catching the sun on the water.  This one is probably my favorites because of the way the color washes throughout the image.  I had a hard time getting this picture, as the swells were pretty strong that day in the bay, and it seems like the second I leaned over the railing to snag this shot, everyone else decided it was a great shot as well.  I’m okay with how it turned out overall, it could have been better though.

All in all, a great trip.  Don’t forget to check out the full collection!
