We went to Germany on a whim of sorts. Both my husband and I have travelled through Europe, and wanted to go somewhere where neither of us had really spent a lot of time. I've been to Munich myself, but never into the heart of the country, and not more than 2 days, so Germany it was. We arrived in Dusseldorf after a long red-eye, and immediately (well, almost immediately,) hopped on the train to the main train station, and then on our ICE connection to Munich. It was a long train ride after a long flight, but not too bad considering I slept the entire way. In Munich, we saw castles, the old city, the BMW Museum, and rented a car to drive to Dachau. From there, we drove the countryside and autobahn to Dresden, which was wonderful with it's baroque architecture and stained sandstone pulled from the Elbe. After Dresden, it was to the train again, for a trip to Berlin. Berlin brought walking through the city, the wall, checkpoint charlie, and the hottest day all summer. We spent our final night resting for the flight back to Detroit, and then Minneapolis. A whirlwind, but amazing. We're already planning a trip back to see the German border with Poland, and Polish countryside.
