We spent a brief all too short weekend in New Orleans. Just enough to wet our appetites, sample the cuisine, enjoy Cafe du Monde, and get caught in an afternoon rain shower all so common in the Spring there. When we arrived, we expected to see more remnants of Katrina than we did. We were told stories of water feet high in some places, of the levees breaking, of the destruction of a once proud city. I can honestly say, I was expecting to see all of that, but saw none, other than high water marks on 2 abandoned buildings, the city appears intact. New Orleans is still struggling to regain some of it's luster though. Bourdon Street is nothing like the street my parents reminisced about from their past; instead, a raunchy street reeking of vomit, mai tai, and people begging for every day to be Mardi Gras. One day, I will return to New Orleans, I just can't say wehn because it's fallen off my list of places I'd like to see more than once. I'm confident I'll be back, and I assume the city will be waiting for me.
